Mary Ann Western, owner & instructor - Sketch Pad - Plainfield
-
This
is a thrilling opportunity to teach and share my love for the
arts at the Sketch Pad. I am busy preparing the studio which
is located in a historic home on Main Street in Plainfield.
My years in teaching art to children have been rewarding and
inspiring. I am looking forward to teaching drawing, painting,
and sculpture in a setting that nurtures students to develop
their skills and provides time to create lasting works of art
that they can be proud of. - My Indiana teaching license is in Visual Arts for grades K-12, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University. The last year of my training was spent in Indianapolis where I had the pleasure of learning from fabulous artists at the Herron School of Art.
- I taught art for 12 years in the elementary school setting in Plainfield, two years at Van Buren Elementary for the Plainfield School Corporation and the following ten years at Saint Susanna School. I was awarded the Mother Theodore Guerin Award for excellence in teaching and Teacher of the Year from the Optimist Club. My passion for drawing and painting also led to a successful business in mural painting. In addition to client’s homes you can view my work in the Avant Gard Salon, Mona’s Hair Salon and the Canal Grille Mediterranean Bistro, both in Broadripple.
- I am anxious to meet students and parents at the Sketch Pad’s new home in Plainfield. You will find it a warm and inviting place where students can learn and express their individual creativity.
Testimonials
Mrs. Western is a wonderful teacher. She exposes the students
to several different mediums while they explore work of the
great artists and styles. My children loved her class.

With
her gentle and skillful guidance, Mary Ann nurtured our daughter's
love for sketching and painting. Our daughter's success and
confidence in high school art is a reflection of Mary Ann's
artistic influence!
